An Invitation to
‘The Journey’
at Blackburn Cathedral

‘The Journey’ – a contemporary set of 15 ‘Stations of the Cross’ by the artist Penny Warden – was commissioned by Blackburn Cathedral in 2004.

They represent the final journey of Jesus – from his condemnation, to his crucifixion and resurrection.

Each figure is faceless and the cross of Jesus is merely implied in each painting.  This style invites the viewer to ‘enter’ the painting – to consider their own or a loved one’s Journey through life – and the ‘crosses’ we all have to bear.

“Wonderfully creative. The Journey has such considerable healing potential.

“Outstanding and very moving work; I hope it will speak to many.
