Jesus is nailed to the cross

‘When they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, along with the criminals – one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said, “Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.” ‘Luke 23 v 33-34

Reflecting on the painting and
Your Journey through life

  1. Public crucifixion was a sadistic, slow and painful death. Like Jesus, many innocent victims today face injustice, prejudice and humiliation.
  2. Take a moment to imagine Jesus, yourself, a loved one, or others as the faceless figure in the painting – someone who is a victim of injustice. Who is in the painting for you? What does it make you think or feel?

‘We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline.
We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence.
Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of
meeting physical force with soul force.’
